The Company

On Tuesday 8th August 2002, BEN created television history, by launching the first 24-hour black-oriented television service in United Kingdom, bridging and filling the gap created by Mainstream broadcasters.

Having exceeded viewers' initial expectations BEN is entirely on schedule, and firmly been taking stake in the television audiences' market and introduce new cultured, black-oriented programmes to European taste with good family ethos.

On a continual basis BEN has expand its programming input and bring in more variety of contents through collaborations with African Broadcasters and broadcast operators, and the acquisition of quality content from the Caribbean while building local content on a daily basis.

BEN continues to celebrate the rich heritage of our diverse cultures, beliefs, customs, and hopes to foster a greater appreciation of humanity in all its manifestations.

It is committed towards the intelligent discussion of developmental issues. BEN would continue to provide daily insight into the experiences of Africa, Caribbean's, and 'non-European as per se, world wide, through untainted, undiluted and absolutely original programming, which viewers in Europe, particularly the United Kingdom, will find refreshingly different in character from the conventional output of other broadcasters.

BEN is a Black and Ethnic oriented, urban, diverse and cosmopolitan Family Channel, established to provide a wholesome mix of entertaining, educative and informational programmes suitable for family viewing. It also includes a range of cultured programming to empower, transform and challenge the conventional perception of Africa, Caribbean and African-descendants in Diaspora.

Since its launch, BEN Television has steadily won the hearts and minds of the viewing public.

Its fresh mix of entertainment and information have filled a void in television media, which few have been able to replicate to date.

The UK alone has an ethnic population of more than 8 million which represents over 8% of the total population. Add this to the rest of Europe and also viewers in Africa and a strong global presence emerges.

BEN: The channel

The station is the only one in the UK and Europe to broadcast AU Summits live; the Nigerian 2003 and 2007 presidential inauguration live and the current Nigerian President (Umaru M. Yar’adua) UK visit in 2008 as well as international sporting activities such as the Unity Cup; Nigeria, Jamaica, Ghana and Ireland football matches, African and Caribbean conferences.

BEN is constantly investing in new programming that caters for everyone; our entertainment sector has over 12 programs that target the youth culture. BEN TV at this moment is currently running twelve LIVE programs, plus other popular programs. We have programs highlighting female issues such as Women's Hour, Hidden Treasure and Bright Talk to Political, Business programs which are BEN Breakfast show, In Diaspora, Africa Initiative, Africa matters and Business Africa spiced with sports programs – the ABC Sports.
