A top security source in the Ministry of Defence in Abuja told SaharaReporters today that President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the introduction of counter-terrorism and insurgency studies for all cadets at the Nigerian Defence Academy, popularly known as NDA in Nigeria.

The military institution, established in 1964, is located in Kaduna.

The source said the cadets are going through the course as their syllabi and curricula have been revised to accommodate the new challenges confronting the Nigerian military.

The cadets were seen today in Jaji, Kaduna, said the source, led by their commander Major General ChukwuemekaOnwuamaegbu, who inaugurated the course that involves cadets rappelling from a helicopter, fending off possible terrorist attacks.

The course is said one of the many strategies of the government to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

President Jonathan was reportedly briefed today on the development and shown clips of the maiden exercise.
