National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur yesterday warned party members to desist from antagonizing President Goodluck Jonathan or face the full wrath of the law, just as he declared that the president remained the leader of the party.
Making this declaration when a former aspirant for the office of national chairman and former Presidential Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Muhammad Abba Aji, paid him a visit, Alhaji Tukur noted that as the leader of the party, the president must be respected by all at all times.
According to him, ‘’the leader of the party is the President; we must support him and follow his actions. As far as I am concerned, the President is the leader and we should support him; we should not antagonize the President.”
Commending Abba Aji for the visit, Tukur, who described the process that made him national Chairman of the party as very healthy, said, ‘’some people believe that when you are competing, you are enemies. No, we are brothers.
Competition is good, it encourages excellence and deepen democracy. Of course, one person must emerge as chairman.”
Speaking earlier, Senator Abba Aji, who was at the residence of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur with members of his campaign team, however, assured the national chairman of his support at all times, adding, ‘’we are now part of your team. Only one person must emerge as chairman and it is God that crowns. As the commander, feel free to call us at anytime. We are your footsoldiers. PDP is a formidable party in terms of number.”
It was also gathered that stakeholders and former aspirants from Borno state were led on similar visit to the National Chairman to congratulate him on his recent election.
